hemlock, ink and digital. for colorCombat.
WOOH, so this was supposed to be finished on april 1st… i’m going to conveniently ignore that though.
first illustration completed since i resurrected colorCombat with sophia foster-dimino. she happened to select the first three colors, which i found horrifically uninspiring. i rounded out the palette with the next three, but it proved to be an incredibly difficult palette anyway.
what’s most irritating was my complete lack of motivation to work on this after the first day. my professional and personal lives have taken up most of my time and creative energy— for better or for worse i guess. with little interest/inspiration/energy to work on this thing, what you see as a final product is actually me just giving up. i couldn’t take it anymore haha.
on a vaguely related note— i found that someone had blogged about my blog (lol) and said it was refreshing to know that i complain about my work. a lot. that’s kind of a funny notion— many people assume that other artists just create work like “it ain’t no thang” but i have yet to meet someone who doesn’t fight every piece he/she touches.
if nothing else, i’m glad that my blog serves to expose exactly how much artists struggle with their work. from this day forth i promise to never hold back my doubts, mistakes, and regrets regarding my work. may i complain forever so that others can feel better about their own struggles! haha
